Working Sphere Series

Still Life

Yew, Holly, Walnut, Rare Earth Magnets
Measurements: 4.5” (sphere), 19.33” Lx 6.5”W x 0.65”H (platform)
The idea of this box came about after seeing an 17th Century sphere jewelry box of glass and hoping to find a way to express it in wood. This first iteration morphed into a luscious fruit inspired by Renaissance paintings where one can see melons, wine and poultry laying across the table ready for the eating. “Still Life, slides open into fruit-like sections lined with attached Holly “seeds” and small Yew “pod-boxes”. The pod-boxes can be twisted open to hold a treasure and each is held in place by magnets. The sections click together to become the sphere in an almost puzzle like manner.

Construct/Deconstruct

Walnut, Cherry, Maple, Wenge, Brass, Magnets
Measurements: 5.75" W x 5.75" H x 5"H

A sphere of Walnut, in a frame of Cherry, is trimmed in Wenge and graced with a kind of Maple calligraphy. Unfolded it becomes a stand to store earrings.

Cherry Noel

Cherry with brass screws
Measurements: 5.25” x 5.25” x 6.75”

I have always enjoyed the look of screws in wood. Here it is fun to see the brass shot through a Cherry box made to hold a small Holiday gift.
